Pla. were carpenters & builders who contracted with Lodge to build temple (masonic hall) on the Lodge's property. To finance building, Lodge issued bonds & executed mortgage on their land (lot in Columbia at intersection of 7th & Garden Sts). Childress & Turpin were trustees of the mortgage. Pla. completed their work on the building & filed this suit to collect balance due them for said work, claiming Lodge was insolvent & asking that mortgage be foreclosed to pay debt.
