Plaintiff sues defendant for two thousand dollars for damages for the conversion of property consisting of "a certain negro man named Albert the property of plaintiff."

The Patterson's sued the railroad company for $1000 damages and for right of way. The railroad co. was building its tracks from Gallatin to Scottsville, KY, which went right through plaintiffs' farm, causing direct and incidental damages, including being cut off from wells, mills, etc. Court ruled in favor of plaintiffs for $500. Defendant appealed. Note: Anna also named Annie in case.

Loss of property from fire.

Dispute over the recovery of quantities of beer, bottles, and boxes. Both Plaintiff and Defendant produced beer in Nashville.

Debts of the estate of M. L. Haley.

Johnston had a load of goods worth $108.59 shipped from Knoxville to Philadelphia, Tenn. While the goods were being stored overnight at the Philadelphia depot, the depot burned. Johnston's goods were destroyed in the fire.

Colter sued Sorrells for unlawfully taking & retaining corn from him, which corn Colter raised as a renter on Sorrells' land but which was separate from corn Colter paid Sorrells as rent. Jury ruled in Colter's favor but awarded just one cent in damages. Witnesses: James Colter, A. Minter, S. D. Brackins.

Sued for damages over the loss of a trunk and its contents while in the railroad's care at the Philadelphia, Tenn. depot.

Case deals with claim against the United States government for property destroyed by the Federal forces during the Civil War. Property that was destroyed belonged to Caleb R. Clement, deceased. His daughter and heir Rebecca Clement, deceased, was married to defendant, T. H. Lewis.

Witnesses included Joseph A. Mabry, W.H. Jackson, F.M. Woodall, Napoleon B. Cheatham, W.G. Harding.

Sues due to damages caused by the construction of land elevation that prevented natural water draining and caused flooding and property damage.

Plaintiff sues for $ 10,000 as damages for an injury. Plaintiff owned a house next to a building defendant rented, a brick partition separating them. The partition helped hold the roof up on plaintiff's house. The defendant's accidently broke the wall down, wrecking plaintiff's house.

Plaintiff claims that the railroad has infringed on his personal property, blocking his right of way, and interfering with his use of a public street. Plat map included after page 24.

Additional plaintiffs: Mary Butler, John Butler, Fannie Butler, Dave Butler, Ellen Reid, and Charles Reid. Cause of action: recovery of sixty nine acres of land in the 8th civil district of Madison County.

Defendant "seized and detained…a certain negro slave named Egbert…the property of the plaintiff"

Additional Defendants: Daniel Phillips, Samuel Hobbs. Complainant seeks to recover 261 barrels of salt, which the Defendants allegedly failed to deliver.

Goodwin is also called James Goodman, admr. of Phoebe Goodman, dec.. He says his mother had five $20 gold pieces, being kept for her by J. O. Ray, and that it is now missing. Ray says she came and got the money herself before her death.
