The claims were examined by David Allison, who acted as Jackson & Evans' middle man, but who was later found questionable in his dealings. In 1815, Thomas Brown obtained a judgment against White on security for Wilson for $300. Then they obtained a judgment against Wilson for $1,800, but Wilson was insolvent. James McEwen then filed a bill of interpleader against Wilson for $500, as leverage for the debt, Wilson had mortgaged an enslaved worker. The suit was filed to settle each of these complaints. |
