Bates received the funds as Josie's agent for the purpose of depositing it in a Bedford County bank. Instead, Bates appropriated $825 of that money for his own use. Bates lived in Bedford County at Haley's Station. Josie lived in Nashville. (While case ongoing, Josie married S. D. Seals.) Jury convicted Bates & sentenced him to 18 mos. in the penitentiary. |
