Hope sued, contesting the will and this request. She claimed the enslaved would become a nuisance to the community without a master. |

Sally Haden of Rowan, NC married William Merrill, & her father William loaned Sally an enslaved girl Dinah, a boy named Harry. Her father bequeathed the enslaved to Sally & after her death her children. When she died some of the enslaved were at other estates. The suit was filed to return the enslaved for the benefit of Sally's children. Dinah's children included: Milly, her children Dinah, Randolph, Dicey. |
