The railway claimed this was an unlawful attempt to tax their company. |

Plaintiff Watkins claimed that W. H. Stone failed to pay the entirety of a judgement rendered against Stone in favor of the plaintiff for about $30. Watkins claimed the defendant, through fraud, got the plaintiff to sign the receipt for the entire amount of the judgement and processed it with the Justice of the Peace. However, Watkins asserted that the defendant only gave him $5 and told him he had to sign the receipt before he would receive the rest of the money the following week, which he never did. |

C. M. Bails was the Clerk & Master of Hawkins County from 1870 to 1876. Other defts. his bondsmen. During his term Bails failed to properly account for monies, collect taxes & issue executions. When case came to court 14 years later Bails no longer held the office & had moved out-of-state, his whereabouts unknown.
