Prior to shooting, Wood was living on land owned by McKelvey, both were farmers. Upon his death, Wood had 5 bales of cotton of which widow wanted to sell to support herself, however McKelvy claimed Wood owed him a debt. On 7/12/1920 Henry Lowery made a deed of trust to W. A. Hassell as trustee, to secure a note payable to T. S. Hassell in the sum of $358.32. With this trust deed, Henry Lowery conveyed to Hassell 3 mules and one gas boat. The trust deed stated that if the debt to T. S. Hassell was not paid at maturity, then complainant as trustee, had authority to take possession of the property stated beforehand. Henry Lowery died and $$ is still owed to Hassell. The sons are in possession of mules and boat. |
